Timing. A dash is three dots long. Leave one dot of silence between marks in a letter, three between letters, and seven between words. Those gaps carry as much meaning as the marks.
What is on the chart
Three blocks, in the order people actually need them.
The twenty-six letters, the part everyone comes for. Arranged alphabetically rather than by length, because a reference sheet is for looking things up and you will be looking up a specific letter.
The ten digits, which are the tidiest part of the whole system. Every one is exactly five marks, sliding across in order: 1 is one dot then four dashes, 5 is five dots, 6 is one dash then four dots, 0 is five dashes. One rule instead of ten patterns.
The punctuation, which most printable charts leave out entirely — full stop, comma, question mark, apostrophe, slash, brackets, colon, semicolon, plus, minus, equals, quotation mark, at sign and dollar. They are rarely needed and extremely annoying to hunt for when they are.
One deliberate design choice: the marks are drawn as shapes rather than typed as `.` and `-`. A printed dash is three times the length of a dot, which is the single most important fact about the code and the one thing a text chart cannot show you. On this chart you can see the ratio.
The part a chart cannot print
Worth saying plainly on a page whose whole job is a reference sheet: the chart is half the code.
Morse has three different silences and they carry as much meaning as the marks. One unit between marks inside a letter, three between letters, seven between words. A chart shows you that H is four dots. It cannot show you that four dots with the wrong gaps is two Is, or four Es.
That is why nearly every "the translator is broken" message turns out to be a spacing problem rather than a marks problem. People copy the patterns off a chart perfectly and then run them together.

Printing it well
A few practical notes, learned by printing this more times than is reasonable.
Use portrait, not landscape. The grid is built in columns that reflow; portrait fits the letters, numbers and punctuation on a single sheet with room for the timing note.
Print in black and white. The print rules already force black on white — a dark web page printed as-is comes out grey, wastes a startling amount of toner, and is harder to read. Do not "print background graphics".
A4 and US Letter both work. The layout is proportional rather than fixed, so it fits either without a scaling setting.
Do not scale below about 80%. Past that the dot and dash shapes stop being reliably distinguishable, which defeats the point.
Save as PDF from the same dialog if you want a copy to send, or to print later somewhere else. That is genuinely the same output, not a lesser version.
Where a paper chart earns its place
It is a fair question in 2026 — you are reading this on a device that can translate instantly. A printed sheet still wins in specific situations.
Anywhere with no signal or no battery. Camping, sailing, hiking, a power cut. This is the original argument and it still holds.
On a wall. A chart pinned above a desk gets absorbed by repetition in a way a page you have to open never does. People who learn the alphabet incidentally almost always had one on a wall.
In a classroom or a troop meeting. Twenty children with one sheet each is a working lesson; twenty children with phones is a different afternoon entirely.
Beside a workbench. If your hands are busy or dirty, paper beats a screen that keeps locking.
As a gift accompaniment. A decoder card tucked in with a bracelet or an engraved piece turns an object into something the recipient can actually read.

How to use it without building a bad habit
This is the one warning worth printing in bold, because a chart is genuinely counterproductive if you use it the wrong way.
If you want to look things up — convert a name for a bracelet, decode a puzzle, check a tattoo before it happens — a chart is exactly the right tool and you can stop reading here.
If you want to read Morse by ear, a chart used as a study aid will hurt you. Learning the alphabet visually builds an invisible extra step: hear the beeps, picture the marks, count them, read off the letter. That works at slow speeds and becomes a hard ceiling later, because at any real speed there is no time to count. Unlearning it takes longer than learning correctly would have.

Using it to teach
If you are handing this to a group — a class, a scout troop, a holiday activity — a few things make it land better.
Start with the short letters. E, T, I, M, A, N. Six characters cover a surprising amount of simple text and give an early win, whereas starting at A and grinding to Z loses people around F.
Teach the mirror pairs together. A and N, D and U, G and W are the same marks reversed, and meeting them separately guarantees confusion later. Contrast them deliberately.
Make them send, not just decode. Tapping a name on a table is more memorable than looking it up, and it forces them to think about the gaps.
Use names. A child converting their own name will remember those letters permanently. Meaning is a memory aid.
Give the timing rule out loud. Three units between letters, seven between words. Written on a chart it is a footnote; said while they tap it, it is the lesson.
And then let them check their work with the translator — decoding their own tapping back to text is the moment it clicks.
