The largest group by far, because a surprising number of people come to Morse specifically to put a word on something.

The common thread across all three is spacing, and it is worth saying once loudly: on a physical object, the gaps are distances rather than silences, and if the space between letters is not visibly wider than the space between marks inside a letter, the piece cannot be decoded by anyone who does not already know what it says. Well-made pieces use a distinct spacer bead or knot between letters rather than simply a bigger gap.

And the habit that saves the most grief: whatever pattern you are about to commit to metal, beads or skin, paste it into a decoder first and confirm the text that comes back is what you intended. Reading it forwards means you see what you expect to see.

Sending a message as light

Morse as light is how it was often actually used — ship to ship, hilltop to hilltop, across a room where sound would carry too far.

Two practical things carry across both. The eye is much worse than the ear at short gaps, so a speed that is comfortable to listen to becomes an unreadable flicker as light — somewhere around 5 to 8 words per minute is the sweet spot for a person actually reading your flashes.

And flash rate is a genuine safety matter. Rapid flashing can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy; the WCAG accessibility guidance uses a threshold of three flashes per second, and fast Morse can exceed that during runs of consecutive dots. Your own recorded sound is the one nothing else offers. Record any short noise — a word, a click, a dog's bark — and it becomes the dit and dah for the whole message. It is genuinely funny to receive, and it is the single feature people remember.

Whichever you pick, the timing is identical, because it comes from the same engine. A message in music-box chimes decodes exactly the same as one in a CW tone; only the texture changes.

A word about what these tools do not do

Being straight about limits saves disappointment, and there are four worth stating.

Uploaded photos cannot travel in a shared link. A URL tops out at a few kilobytes and a photo is orders of magnitude larger. Preset background themes travel; your own picture does not. It still works perfectly in local playback and in downloaded video.

Real-world decoding is best-effort. Generating audio, light and video is exact, because the tool controls the timing. Reading back from a photograph of a curved bracelet or a noisy recording is inherently harder, and clean straight-on input decodes far more reliably than a snapshot taken at an angle.

Decide the spacing convention up front and write it down. One spacer between letters, a larger one between words, nothing inside a letter. Changing your mind halfway through produces a piece that is inconsistent and therefore undecodable.

Do a dry lay-out. Put the whole pattern on a flat surface before threading or committing. Errors are obvious in a row on a table and nearly invisible once a bracelet is closed.
